1. Smeg BCC02
This sleek, compact, and striking machine, designed by Milan-based company Deep Design combines the brand's retro aesthetic with the latest technology. The machine can handle all the stages of making coffee starting from grinding beans, tamping into a puck and making milk into a texturing, before dispensing the right amount.
The machine is also available in black, red or taupe. It can easily be incorporated into any kitchen style. It's not without faults however. The majority of reviewers thought it was quite expensive for a cup to bean maker (and isn't equipped with an ice cube).
There were also numerous positive reviews about the quality of the coffee as well as the ease of using this machine. The digital display offers feedback and step-by-step directions throughout the entire brewing procedure, helping you to perfect your drink every time. The machine even allows you to adjust the size of your grind in case that's not what you would like to do. It's like having your very own personal barista at home (minus Elon Musk's rocket building skills and Harry Potter's invisibility cape).
If you like milky drinks, this model features a steam wand that's adjustable in both directions to accommodate the majority of drinking vessels that aren't equipped with the Viking's drinking horn. We were also awed by the speed and efficiency with how the frothing was accomplished. It creates a delicious, full-flavoured espresso with a fantastic crema.
The BCC02 is a great all-rounder that's quiet, effective and provides excellent value for money, especially at its current price of PS499. The only problem is that it doesn't provide the same level of customisation as other bean-to-cup machines we have tested. Its pump is 15 bars rather than the usual 19 bars. This isn't as good for producing high-quality espressos. But other than that, this is a fantastic bean-to-cup machine for those who prefer their coffee strong and black.
